Honda Accord, Toyota Camry See Huge Jumps, Nissan Rogue Sets Record

2012 Toyota Camry SE front three quarters in motion

Toyota rocketed ahead of its Japanese competitors in April, with total sales of 178,044 units across all of its brands for a gain of 11.6 percent over the company’s April 2011 performance. With sales of 122,012, Honda improved sales from last month but was flat compared to April of last year. That was the case for Nissan as well, with its 71,329 units sold among both brands representing a decrease of 0.3 percent.

Toyota’s/Scion’s Hots:

Toyota Camry: The 2012 Camry was once again the automaker’s overall best-seller for April. Toyota moved 36,820 Camrys last month, a 20.9-percent increase in year-over-year sales.

Toyota Prius: No surprise here, as Toyota doesn’t yet break out Priuc C and Prius V sales from the regular Prius.  The sub-brand’s sales jumped 101.7 percent over the same period last year, with Toyota sending a Prius home to 25,168 new owners.

Scion iQ: Although the smallest Scion in the lineup, the diminutive iQ beat out its slightly larger sibling, the Scion xD, by 46 units. Since the beginning of this year, 3485 iQs have been sold, with 962 of those sold in April.
